A scratchpad that is always one hover away

Capture it before you lose it.

Recording of the Quick Notes tool: a new line is typed into the note. Sample note.

What it does.

Saves as you type
There is no save button. Whatever you write is there the next time you open the notch.
Always available
Hover, type, move on. It is quicker than switching to a notes app for a number or a name.
Plain text, stays on your Mac
Your note is stored in NotchStar's preferences on your Mac, and it is not synced or uploaded.
Focus only when needed
NotchStar takes keyboard focus only while a text tool is open, so it never grabs your typing at other times.

Some notes are too small for a notes app: a confirmation number, an address, a thing to ask later. Quick Notes is for those.

How it behaves

Click into the text area and type. Your words are saved automatically. Switch tabs or close the notch, and the note is still there.

Good to know
  • There is one note, not a list of notes.
  • It is plain text with no formatting or attachments.
  • It does not sync between devices.

Questions about Quick Notes.

Is my note private?

It is stored locally on your Mac and never uploaded.

Can I have several notes?

Not yet. It is a single scratchpad by design.

Will it steal my keyboard focus?

No. The notch only takes keyboard focus while Quick Notes, Clipboard search or Teleprompter editing is open.
